Two Birmingham-based firms win Living Space Contractor Awards

November 5, 2020

Two firms based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter have been presented with Contractor Awards by Solihull-based Living Space Housing. The affordable housing specialist runs the quarterly award scheme to recognise and celebrate companies within its supply chain who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to deliver an exceptional standard of work.

The autumn Contractor Awards have been presented to M Lambe Construction, which is a third-generation family-run business specialising in civil engineering and groundwork; and masterplanning and residential design specialist UMAA Architecture. Both are located in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

M Lambe Construction commenced work at Living Space’s flagship £12m Malvern Oaks scheme in the Herefordshire village of Cradley in September 2019. Work is continuing at pace to deliver 51 high-quality houses and bungalows, with the whole team at M Lambe showing a commendable attitude and approach to all aspects of their work remit, which entails the creation of new roads, footpaths, Public Open Space and sewers, and all works up to the damp proof course of each new home.

UMAA Architecture is carrying out the detailed design work at Living Space’s two newly acquired schemes; one is in the traditional Oxfordshire village of Milcombe, while the other is located off Majestic Way in Telford. Together, both schemes will deliver 79 high-quality affordable homes to Registered Providers. The Contractor Award has been presented to UMAA for the team’s highly responsive and reliable service.

Steve Davies, Managing Director of Living Space said: “We take a very proactive approach to keeping our supply chain as local as possible, in order to support the employment market around each of our live development sites. These two brilliant Birmingham-based firms have helped us to tackle challenges brought about by this extraordinary year and continue to deliver an excellent level of service.

“With the first tranche of homes at Malvern Oaks now completed and our new sites in Milcombe and Telford formally acquired, we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate M Lambe Construction and UMAA Architecture’s professionalism, team work ethic and partnership approach by presenting both firms with Living Space Contractor Awards.”

Living Space is a development-led residential planning, design and construction services solution for Registered Providers, PRS Funds, the NHS, Universities and Defence Estates, which provides an end-to-end service, enabling more homes to be delivered with greater efficiency. Having launched to the market last year, the company already has a total of 484 residential plots under construction or in the planning system, representing a combined construction value in excess of £80million.

Michael Lambe, Managing Director of M Lambe Construction said: “Living Space is such a young company and it has been incredible to watch the pace of growth over the past year. There is a great breadth of experience amongst the team and it is a pleasure to work with them. We are delighted to receive this award for our work at Malvern Oaks, which has to be amongst the most scenic development sites we have ever worked on.”

To ensure staff, contractors and visitors can work safely, all Living Space sites are adhering to its Covid-19 Safe Operating Procedure, which was compiled with Government and Construction Leadership Council guidance.

Zahid Khan, Director of UMAA Architecture said: “We are thrilled to have won this award from Living Space, which reflects their appreciation of how our team has risen to the challenge of evolving briefs and tight turn-arounds. We always seek to be regarded as an extension to the in-house design team and are delighted to be working on two of Living Space’s new projects.”

Living Space’s other live developments comprise 48 homes located at the former Victoria Carpets Sports Ground, which are being delivered for Stonewater, 26 homes located off Britannia Way in central Telford, Shropshire, which are being delivered for Accord Housing Association, and 38 homes located off Park Road in Telford, which are being delivered for The Wrekin Housing Group.
