Living Space Housing Collaborates with Ironbridge Lions Over Charity Recycling Initiative

May 31, 2021

Living Space Housing is providing over 100 wooden pallets from its three live developments across Telford to Ironbridge Lions. The pallets are being recycled and repurposed as snowmen, which will go on sale in preparation for the festive season. All proceeds will go directly towards supporting the South Telford community, which Ironbridge Lions has been actively doing since 1979.

The local Living Space development sites which are providing the wooden pallets comprise; 39 homes under construction at Majestic Way in the village of Aqueduct; 38 properties being delivered at Park Road in the Malinslee ward; and a further 26 homes located off Stadium Way in the village of Hadley. All of the new homes are being purpose built for The Wrekin Housing Group and GreenSquareAccord to boost the availability of quality affordable housing in Telford.

Keith Harris, Contracts Manager for Living Space Housing said: “We are thrilled to be able to provide our used wooden pallets for this great cause. 97% of the waste we create during the housebuilding process is already routinely recycled, but it is fabulous to see these pallets being repurposed by the Ironbridge Lions in order to raise much-needed funds. We look forward to seeing lots of the snowmen/women outside homes in the vicinity towards the end of the year, in celebration of the festive season. We would love to purchase some too, so we can join in the fun and brighten up our developments!”

In 2018, Ironbridge Lions repurposed wooden pallets as Christmas trees, which was a very successful community fundraising initiative. The snowman/women being produced this year are expected to raise in the region of £3,000 for local causes, such as supporting those suffering from food poverty or adversely affected by flooding.

Charlie Miller, President of Ironbridge Lions said: “We are very grateful to the Living Space team for their donation of over 100 wooden pallets. We have an army of committed volunteers who will be making and selling the charming snowmen characters over the next six months. We hope they will create a heart-warming talking point across South Telford, while also giving a much-needed boost to our charity account, which has been severely depleted due to the Covid lockdowns.”

Solihull-based Living Space Housing launched to the market in 2019 and is currently constructing seven affordable housing developments across middle England, with a number of additional sites in the planning system. The combined construction value of its development portfolio is in excess of £72million, which equates to 580 affordable houses, apartments and bungalows.
