Living Space Housing has been crowned Property Business of the Year in the 2021 West Midlands Business Masters Awards, which is run by regional media platform TheBusinessDesk.com. The award is in recognition of the Solihull-based company’s efforts to ramp up production of affordable housing, to help combat industry-wide issues of low output.
Living Space was crowned the winner of the property award, having been shortlisted alongside Godwin Developments, Index West Midlands, SevenCapital and One Creative Environments. The prestigious Business Masters Awards event took place on 11th November at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham, where a total of 14 winners were announced.
Living Space Housing launched to the market in 2019 as a specialist in affordable housing. By March 2022, the company will have delivered 580 affordable houses, apartments and bungalows, with a value of over £70m.
Mark Booth, Co-founder of Living Space Housing said: “Living Space received a Gold Award from RoSPA earlier this year, but this is the first time we have been crowned a winner at a business event, which makes this award from The Business Desk feel all the more special! No-one deserves to be crowned Property Business of the Year more than the Living Space team. Each and every one of them has worked tirelessly to navigate through the continual challenges of the past 20 months, more than doubling the size of the business and turnover.
“I am especially proud that their proactive response has enabled Living Space to ramp up production, which is helping to tackle industry-wide shortfalls in the delivery of new homes. The ongoing impact of the pandemic is creating an unprecedented demand for affordable housing. The business is on track to deliver 580 affordable homes before the end of this financial year, working with a cross-section of notable regional and national Registered Providers.”
Living Space has a total of 674 residential plots under control, representing a combined value in excess of £113million. The business is on track to deliver at least 12 developments over the next two years. The vast majority of the homes Living Space builds are delivered to Registered Providers (RPs) for affordable rent and shared ownership. Approximately five per cent of the plots currently being delivered are being sold on the open market. Living Space sources the land, achieves Full Detailed Planning consent and builds the homes for the RP, enabling them to focus on the funding and management of high-quality homes for their residents.
Alex Turner, joint managing director at TheBusinessDesk.com, hosted the awards. He said: “Congratulations to all our winners and shortlisted companies. We were inundated with entries once again this year, with more than 100 companies from right across the region vying for the prize. This is a testament not only to our growing readership, but also the strength and depth of businesses in the area.”
Living Space’s area of operation is the West Midlands conurbation, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.
