Living Space Secures a Site on the Outskirts of Worcester to Bring Forward New Affordable Homes

December 3, 2021

Living Space Housing has secured a 3.09Ha (7.6-acre) site in Bevere, within the historic Worcestershire Parish of North Claines. The land has a draft allocation for 74 homes within the South Worcestershire Development Plan Review.

Formerly part of Gwillams Farm, the site is located off Bevere Lane, and adjacent to A449 Ombersley Road. It is also adjacent to Bellway’s recently completed Cherry Tree Place and Cherry Orchard developments. The vision for the land is to create circa 75 quality affordable dwellings within the eastern part of the expansive site, in order to retain the open parkland setting of the neighbouring historic properties, which lie within the Bevere Conservation Area.

Living Space will shortly be undertaking pre-application consultation with Wychavon District Council and key stakeholders, prior to preparing a planning application in 2022.

Paul Breen, Managing Director of Living Space Housing said: “The county of Worcestershire is an exceptionally popular place to live, particularly homes within easy reach of the cathedral city of Worcester. Bevere is only three miles away from the centre of the city, and the range of local amenities, schooling and bus services nearby ensures this charming hamlet is a sustainable location for new housing.

“We are looking forward to working collaboratively to bring forward the development plans for this site next year.”

Both Northwick Manor and Claines Church of England Primary Schools are within walking distance – or a short drive – from the proposed development site. The neighbouring village of Claines is served by St John the Baptist’s Church, The Wishing Well Nursery, and The Mug House pub. The village of Northwick – located off A449 Ombersley Road – also neighbours Bevere, and features a Co-op convenience store and The New Inn pub. Within Bevere itself is a recently installed fully equipped playground, and the popular local destinations of Gwillams Farm Shop, and Bevere Gallery and Café.

The development design will be tenure-blind, with local materials proposed to replicate nearby traditional dwellings. Parking will be provided for both the future residents and for visitors. The land was introduced to Living Space by Greenlight Developments Ltd.

Living Space has a total of 674 residential plots under control, representing a combined value in excess of £113million. The Solihull-based business is on track to deliver at least 20 developments over the next two years. The vast majority of the homes Living Space builds are delivered to Registered Providers (RPs) for affordable rent and shared ownership. Five per cent of the plots currently being delivered are being sold on the open market. Living Space sources the land, achieves Full Detailed Planning consent and builds the homes for the RP, enabling them to focus on the funding and management of high-quality homes for their residents.
