Green light as Living Space doubles down on affordable housing in Worcester

September 8, 2025

Living Space has secured planning approval for the second phase of its largest affordable housing development to date on Bath Road, Worcester, reinforcing its role as a driving force in tackling the affordable housing shortage.

The 4.2-acre scheme, located within the Worcester South Urban Extension, will deliver 48 additional sustainable, high-quality homes for Living Space’s long-standing partner, Stonewater. This follows support from Malvern Hills District Council, with works set to begin immediately, running in tandem with Phase One.

The new phase has been designed to meet a diverse range of housing needs, to include one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom properties, with a tenure mix of 30% Shared Ownership, 30% Affordable Rent, and 40% Social Rent. This ensures the scheme directly supports those most affected by the cost-of-living crisis while offering first-time buyers and families a path onto the housing ladder.

A standout feature of the development is its commitment to community wellbeing and sustainability. Over 40% of the site will be dedicated to green, public open spaces, creating a healthier, more resilient neighbourhood and supporting local biodiversity.

“This planning approval is more than just another milestone, it’s proof that we can deliver meaningful solutions to the housing crisis,” said Paul Breen, Managing Director of Living Space.

“Living Space is committed to building sustainable, inclusive communities that not only meet urgent housing demand but also enhance the quality of life for Stonewater’s residents. With Phase One already progressing at pace, moving directly into Phase Two ensures momentum in delivering the homes Worcester urgently needs.”

The Bath Road development is part of Living Space’s drive to scale up affordable housing delivery in partnership with registered providers across the country. Once complete, both phases will significantly boost affordable housing availability in Worcestershire, providing vital support for local families.

Living Space’s pipeline of projects demonstrates the company’s growing capacity to deliver affordable housing at scale, with speed, and with sustainability at its core, at a time when both the housing crisis and climate crisis demand urgent action.
