Two family firms win Living Space Contractor Awards

July 23, 2021

Two family businesses have been presented with Contractor Awards by Solihull-based Living Space Housing. The affordable housing specialist runs the quarterly award scheme to recognise and celebrate companies within its supply chain who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to deliver an exceptional standard of work.

The summer Living Space Contractor Awards have been presented to Telford-based carpentry contractor M E Bishop Ltd, and Wolverhampton-based civil engineering and groundworks specialist Stave-Con Ltd.

M E Bishop has worked across Living Space’s trio of Telford developments for the past 12 months. The carpentry specialist has delivered a high standard of work, thanks to the consistent allocation of labour resource, despite the challenges of Covid-19 restrictions. A scheme of 26 affordable homes located off Stadium Way in Telford for GreensquareAccord is now completed. Meanwhile, work is continuing at pace to deliver 38 high-quality houses and bungalows located on brownfield land off Park Road in the Malinslee ward of Telford. Construction work is also progressing well at Majestic Way in the Telford village of Aqueduct, where 39 family houses and bungalows are being delivered. Both live projects are on behalf of The Wrekin Housing Group, with all 77 new homes being purpose-built for affordable rent.

Stave-Con Ltd is the civils contractor for the Majestic Way development, as well as for Living Space’s scheme of 40 affordable homes in the picturesque Oxfordshire village of Milcombe, which is being delivered on behalf of housing provider Paradigm. The whole team at Stave-Con has shown a commendable attitude and approach to all aspects of their work remit, which entails the creation of new roads, footpaths, Public Open Space and sewers, and all works up to the damp proof course of each new home.

Shane Robinson, Production Director for Living Space said: “We take a very proactive approach to keeping our supply chain as local as possible, in order to support the employment market around each of our live development sites. These two brilliant family firms have helped us to tackle the challenges brought about by this extraordinary year and continue to deliver an excellent level of service.

“Our £3.6m Stadium Way development in Telford is now fully handed over to GreensquareAccord. With work progressing well at our other two Telford schemes – and at our site in Milcombe, Oxfordshire – we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate M E Bishop and Stave-Con’s professionalism, team work ethic and partnership approach by presenting both firms with Living Space Contractor Awards.”

Mark Bishop, Director of M E Bishop Ltd said: “Our whole team is delighted to be working on both of Living Space’s developments for The Wrekin Housing Group and contributing to the delivery of quality affordable housing right here in our hometown of Telford.”

The combined construction value of Living Space’s live and oncoming development portfolio is in excess of £72million, which equates to 580 affordable houses, apartments and bungalows.  To ensure staff, contractors and visitors can work safely, all Living Space sites adhere to its Covid-19 Safe Operating Procedure, which was compiled with Government and Construction Leadership Council guidance.
